General Notes
This Phoenician graffito was inscribed on the thirteenth century temple of Osiris at Abydos. The graffiti found at Abydos (see also DEAPS numbers 11489 and 16903) are dated by Donner and Röllig to the Persian period, roughly fifth to third centuries BCE, based on the paleography (KAI II 1964, 65-67; see also Holmstedt et al., 2026, 265) (Wheaton).

Textual Notes
This text begins with a name that has an initial theophoric element (Baˁal). According to Benz (1972, 90-100) this is very common, especially with Baˁal. Given that the final letter is a ḥet, the possibilities (see Benz 1972, 98) are בעלשלח (“Baˁal sent”) or בעלקלח (misspelling of בעלשלח). The second name is listed in Benz (1972, 141) as מנקרתחני, which he says is a misspelling of מלקרתחני. This adds the theophoric element of Melqart, a chief god of Tyre, which would mean something like “Melqart makes camp” (see Krahmalkov 2000, 190). (Wheaton).
