General Notes
The memorandum is written on a scrap of used papyrus that is 12.0 cm wide, that is just shy of one sheet of papyrus, which were frequently between 14.5–15.00 cm wide. The scrap runs the height of a roll and is 27.4 cm long. The original composition, that is the palimpsest—which is now erased—was written 180° to the overwritten text (i.e. upside down). The palimpsest was part of a longer roll as indicated by the papyrus’ straightly cut edges and the fact that words and letters are bisected by the edges. It seems that the writer of the overwritten memoranda had prepared the papyrus in such a way that it could be easily joined to a longer record-roll.

Memorandum of Bagavahya and Delayah. They said
to me: Memorandum. Quote: “It shall be to you in Egypt to say
before ˀAršāma: ‘Concerning the altar-house of the God of
the Heavens which (was) built in Fort Elephantine--
it was previously before Kanbûzî(,)
(and it) which the wicked Vîdranga demolished.'
(Dated) on the 14th (year) of Daryûhûš (i.e. Darius II), the king.
(It shall be to you in Egypt) to (re)build it in its place, as it was formerly.
And the grain-offerings and incense-offerings they may present to
that altar, just as formerly
had been done."
