James Moore

On the 12th of Thoth, year 4 of Artaxerxes the king, then said ˁAnanî son of ˁAzaryah, a lḥn-servitor of Yahô, and lady Tapemet
his wife, a lḥn-servitor of Yahô the god who dwells (in) Fort Elephantine, to ˁAnanî son of Ḥaggay son of Mešullam son of Busasa an Aramean of
<of> Fort Elephantine of the dᵉgal-unit of Nabûkudurrî, saying: I—1 (person)—(and) Tapemet daughter of Patoû—total 2 (persons)—we sold and gave to you our house, which
we bought with silver from Bagazušta son of Friyana/Palliya the Caspian. It is the house of Ynbwly son of Misday(a), a Caspian who in Elephantine is
possession-status holder. You gave us the (agreed) price of our house: silver, one, that is 1, karš, three, that is 3, šeqels. The silver(-rate) (is) 6 Ionion staters
(and) one shekel. Our heart was satisfied herein that none of the price remains on your (m.s.) "account". These are the measurements of the house which we sold
and gave to you: from east to west {to west}, length, 16 cubits, 2 h(ands) by the measuring rod.
And from below to above, width, 5 cubits, 2 h(ands) by the measuring rod. In area, 150 cubits. Indeed, these are
the boundaries of the house which we sold and gave to you: East of it, its house is that which I gave to you (as) an after-gift
according to the document of wifehood of Yahôyišmaˁ
On the 12th of Thoth, year 4 of King Artaxerxes, then said ˁAnanî son of ˁAzaryah, a lḥn-servitor of Yahô
the god—1 (person)—(and) Tapemet his wife, "Chief of the Beloved" of Mešullam son of Zakkûr—total: 2 (persons)—as one mouth to ˁAnanî son of Ḥaggay son of Busasa,
saying: We sold and gave to you (m.s.) our house which we bought from Bagazušta son of Friyana/Palliya the Caspian — a lower(-level) house, renovated,
containing beams, windows, and 2 doors. Renovated (is the) lower house. It is the large room belonging to me. You gave us its (agreed) price
(in) silver, one karš, 3 šeqels. The silver(-rate) (is) Ionian currency: 6 staters, 1 šeqel. Our heart was satisfied with the (agreed) price which
you (m.s.) gave to us. These are the measurements of the house which we sold and gave to you (m.s.). From east to west, length,
16 (15) cubits, (16) 2 h(ands) by the measuring rod. From above to below, width, 5 cubits, 2 h(ands). \In/ area: 151 \cubits,/ 1 h(and). These are
the boundaries of the house which we sold and gave to you. East of it (is) your house. You(rs), ˁAnanî('s) son of Ḥaggay, which we gave
to Yahôyišmaˁ our daughter (as) an after-gift on her document of wifehood. It adjoins wall by wall (parallel or adjacently [?]). West of it (is) the Temple
of Yahô and King's Street is between them. Above it (is) the house of Parnû/Pharnahva son of Ziliya and of Mardû/Mardava his brother. It adjoins it
wall by wall (parallel or adjacently [?]). Below it (is) the house of Paḥê/Paḥoî and of Pameṭ his brother, boatmen of the waters, sons of Tawêˀ.
King's Street (is) between them. Its 1 window opens to the large room. The threshhold belonging to it opens to King's Street.
From there you may exit and enter this house, the measurements and boundaries of which are written in this document. You, ˁAnanî,
have right to it from this day until forever. Your children have right (to it) after you, so (too) whomever affectionately you shall give (it to) or
to whom you sell it for silver. I (am) ˁAnanî, and Tapemet (is) my wife, who "is in with" Mešullam son of Zakkûr. He gave her to me
for wifehood. We shall not be able to bring against you a lawsuit or litigation in the name of this house, which we sold and gave to you and (for which) you gave to us its (agreed) price
(in) silver. \Our heart/ was satisfied \herein/. Moreover, we shall not be able to bring (suit) against your sons or your daughters or whomever you give (it) to for silver—or affectionately. Moreover, neither
a son of ours nor daughter, brother nor sister of ours, partner-in-chattel nor partner-in-land nor guarantor of ours shall be able (to sue). Whoever shall bring against you (m.s.) a lawsuit or bring (one)
against your sons or against a man whom you give (it) to or whoever shall lay charge against you to a manager or lord or judge in the name of this house, (the) measurements of which
are written above, or whoever shall bring out against you a new or old document in the name of this house, which we sold and gave you, shall be guilty.
He shall give to you (m.s.) or your (m.s.) children a penalty(-payment) of silver, 20 karš by the stone(-weight)s of the king, refined silver. The house belongs to your (m.s.) and to your (m.s.) children.
or to whomever you give (it) affectionately. Moreover, we gave you the old document which Bagazušta wrote for us, the document of the purchase/sale
which he sold to us and (for which) we gave him its (agreed) price. {vacat to insert value} (in) silver. Wrote Ḥaggay son of Šemayah this document in Fort Elephantine
at the instruction of ˁAnanî, the lḥn-servitor of Yahô the god, (and) Tapememet daughter of Patoû, his wife—total: 2 (persons) as one mouth. (hand 2) Witness Mešullam
son of Maˁuzyah. (hand 2) witness Naḥûm son of Baytaˀ, (hand 3) witness Natan son of Yehôˀûr; (hand 4) Magir
Document of a house which ˁAnanî son of ˁAzaryah and Tapemet his wife sold.
