James Moore

On the 6th of Tishri, that is day 22 of Payni, year 8 of Darius the king, then in Fort Syene said
ˀÛryah son of Maḥseyah, an Aramean of Syene, before Vîdranga, the "Guardian of the Seventh", the commander of Syene, to Zakkûr son of Mešullam,
an Aramean of Syene, Vîdranga the "Guardian of the Seventh", the commander of Syene, saying: Yedanyah by name son of Taḥôˀi, [you]r la[d]
whom you gave to me and a document you wrote for me about him—I shall not be able—I, ˀÛryah, nor son or daughter of mine, (nor) brother or sister of mine, nor man
of mine—one (shall not be able) to subjugate him (as) a servant. My son he shall be. Neither I, nor son nor daughter of mine, nor man of mine, nor another person—we have no right
to brand him. I shall not be able—I, nor son or daughter of mine, (nor) brother or sister of mine, nor man of mine—we (shall not be able) to rise up in order to make him a se[rvant]
or to brand him. Whoever shall rise up against that Yedanyah in order to brand him or to make him a servant must pay to you a penalty of silver,
thirty karsh by the weights of the king, a silver(-rate) of a zuz to the ten. That Jedaniah, shall be my son all the same. And no person
has right to brand him or to make him a servant. Instead he shall be my son. Wrote Rauḥšana son of Nergalšezib at the instruction of ˀÛryah.
