Textual Notes
Verso. The side-to-side orientation of the opistograph suggests that the verso is a docket or address, and for this reason ◦ספיר is more likely a name. All letters are certain except for the ר which may also be interpreted as a ו. The verb √ספר is hardly (if ever)*1* attested in IA, so reading a Gp-stem is unlikely. Also, the noun sapphire is also not (yet) found in Egyptian Aramaic sources. *1*See Lipiński, “New Aramaic Clay Tablets,” 255–256 for the one occurrence thought to be a verb.
