Textual Notes
The inscription is effaced. The last two letters are clear and the K's shape indicates that the script is Phoenician. The third-to-last letter looks like B, but the letter continues into the crack and onto the the dirty right fragment. The mostly likely reading is a linear mem. (See discussion of mem on no. 1 above.) Compared to contemporary labels the options are (1) LMLK "Belonging to the king" or a name, such as BMLK (compare TADAE C4.2:1 Aramaic script/Phoenician name) or a something like ˀḤMLK. It is noteworthy that Aramaic or Phoenician government-marked vessels (LMLK) in Egypt are so far only known from Elephantine.
