General Notes
KAI 74 is the largest of the Carthaginian sacrificial tariffs. It was discovered at Carthage in 1858. Like the Marseille Tariff (KAI 69 DEAPS 11509), it is carved from limestone and inscribed in a script of roughly the same size. Together, these features, along with the overlap in textual content, place the two stones in close relationship within the Punic temple system. The text overlaps closely with the Marseille Tariff in vocabulary and structure. They share the formula בעת המאתת אש תנא, the sacrificial categories כלל and צועת, and a similar inventory of offerings and similar monetary costs. This Carthage tariff also agrees with the exemption of the poor from paying the tariff but disagrees on the allocation of the hide.
