General Notes
Acquired by purchase in 1933, the Arslan Tash tablets have generated much interest and discussion for their seemingly extraordinary contents. Gibson 1982 labels the language of the tablets as a mixed, Phoenician-Aramaic dialect. However, he and others are rightly skeptical about the legitimacy of these tablets, which seem, at this point, to be forgeries.
Textual Notes
Line 3: With Gibson 1982, the final wāw in ʾlw is likely haplography. Line 19: The final aleph of l-ʿptʾ is thought to represent the Aramaic article. Line 20: Read l-lyn as the nominal form layyān.

Incantation against 'T', goddess, [against]
SSM son of PDRŠ-
Š', god,
and against the Breaker-of-the-lamb's-neck:
The house I enter
you shall not enter,
and the countryard I tread
you shall not tread.
Ashur had made an eternal pact
with us, he has made (it)
with us, and all the sons of the gods
and the numberous generation of all the Holy ones (have made it);
(it is accompanied) by oaths of the heavens and the earth,
the eternal witnesses; by oaths of Baal,
[the lord of all] the earth; by oaths
of the wife of Horon, whose mouth is bound,
and of her seven co-wives, of the eight
wives of the holy Master.
Against the Flying ones: From the dark chamber
pass now, now, night demons!
From the house begone outside!
It has arrived at
and has
thrown light on the
doorposts; the sun has risen!
SSM,
pass on and for all time
fly away!
