Textual Notes
cc 4: Lemaire, “Review" interprets "10 oboles", but "Oboles" are unexpected in this period and location, and there is no space preceding "10". A form of the מעין "spring" is inticing, but were there springs near ancient Elephantine/Syene? Besides, springs of (מעיני) the barley waxes too poetic for an Elephantine ostracon. A form of the root שמע is difficult to reconcile with the legible orthography and the grammar known from Elephantine. "Our bellies" is a best guess.
